POWELL LIBRARY UCLA

Built in 1929, the Powell Library is a long-standing landmark on the UCLA campus. This project includes various seismic upgrades to the infrastructure of the building. TTS Engineering was contracted by Skanska Building to perform the interior and offsite concrete as well as fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) to reinforce the ceiling. We began work in October of 2022 and will finish by July, 2023. A few challenging aspects of this project are that the library is kept open and active during construction and our workforce in the field performed on scaffolding. Powell Library won the prestigious 1996 Governor’s Historic Preservation Award for excellence in historic preservation and was honored with the American Institute of Architects Architectural Award.
